Preparing a resume

Sometimes referred to as Experiential Education, both Internships and Co-Ops are work experiences that provide practical hands-on learning in your area of study or career interest.
Internships and Co-Ops
  • Provide on-the-job experience that supplements skills learned in the classroom
    •
  • Offer opportunities to explore career possibilities
    •
  • Can give you the competitive edge as a job seeker
Experiential Education is available in many different settings and organizations.

Internships can be paid or unpaid, and may allow the candidate to earn *academic credit.  Most internships are part-time and usually one semester in length.
*Students who wish to obtain credit for an internship must contact their Academic Department. Credit-bearing internships are arranged at the discretion of the candidate's Academic Department.     Internship credits appear on the student transcript and will be added to the tuition and fee charges.

Co-Ops (co-operative education assignments) are paid positions directly related to your field of study.  Co-Ops offer substantive professional work experience.  Full-time co-ops are generally six months in length.

Current UMass Boston students who have earned a minimum of *30-45 degree credits
are eligible to participate in the Internship Program.
*A minimum 12-15 degree credits must have been completed at UMass Boston.
